Outlook 2010 Rule "Sent to" "Blank"

Greetings!

First time poster here.  I am wanting to create a rule where I move any emails in which the "sent to" field is left blank (Caused by a SharePoint glitch) to another folder.   I am in the rules manager under advanced options trying to leave the "To:" field blank.   I am trying to use the criteria <blank> but this does not appear to be working.   If I leave it actually blank, when I try to save the rule I get an error "A value in the 'Rule description' box was not set.  To set a value, click underlined words in the Rule description area."

Thank you for your time and help!

Hi,

I can't find such rule in Outlook, however, there is a workaround may satisfy your needs:

1. In Outlook 2010, click Folder tab.

2. Click New Search Folder.

3. In the New Search Folder Dialog, scroll to the bottom and select "Create a custom Search Folder".

4. Click Choose button.

5. Name the Search Folder and click Criteria button.

6. In the Search Folder Criteria dialog, click Advanced tab.

7. Click Field drop-down list, select Address Fields > To.

8. Change the Condition box to "is empty".

9. Click Add to List button. Click OK.

10. Click OK twice.

Now, check if all the emails which have blank "To" field is in the search folder you just created. Select all these emails and you can move them to another folder.

Hope this helps.

Hi

As per the information and details provided by you, to set the Outlook 2010 rule Sent to Blank, please follow these steps: -

Since we are going to sort the outgoing emails by using rules, we are going all the way and actually also manage  saving All outgoing messages by using rules. This means that we can turn off the generic option Save copies of messages in Sent items folder which is on by default. You can find this option: -

In Outlook 2010

  • File > Options > section Mail > Option group: Save messages.

I hope this information will be helpful for you.

Thanks and regards
